Hi Wendy,
My name is Murray Steele and I'll be presenting a short (10 minutes or so)
talk about using Java code and libraries within Ruby at the next LRUG
meeting. I plan to cover:
* why you might want to do such a thing (legacy libraries, enterprise
integration, etc...)
* how to do such a thing using YAJB
* some "fun" examples
I'm going to assume a basic understanding of Java and Ruby, but not
neccessarily the libraries that I use in my examples.
My background is one of rags to riches and back again, too Dickensian to
relate here in full, here's the synopsis:
I've plied my trade as a Java and C++ programmer for long enough to know
that I didn't want to be doing them for the rest of my career (too much
effort for too little work). A brief stint as a Python GUI developer a
couple of years ago showed me that dynamic languages are where the fun is
and the opportunity to work as a Ruby developer presented itself to me at
just the right time. So here I am.
Cheers
Muz
