For absent friends...
On Ben's advice the group split into two, so he could demonstrate to the
smaller RubyNewbys half, Irb - Interactive Ruby Shell, and through Irb
Ruby's TCPServer and TCPSocket classes, describing alone the way a few of
Ruby's idiums.
The other half of the group held a separate converstion so I'll leave it to
one of them to give an overview of what was discussed there.
Waifs and Strays:
The group now seems to have a regular attendance of 15+.
A couple of people discussed problems they were having with Rails'
ActiveRecord.
Suggested talks for future meetings: DSLs, ActiveRecord, RubyQuiz
There are a number of Ruby books being re/published. Opinion was divided on
'The Ruby Way', I *again* recomended 'Ruby for Rails' - David Black's
excellent introduction to Ruby. If you're coming to Ruby from say PHP or a
relative programming novice as I am it's a must have.
Regards
Anthony Green
