There was also a quick fire discussion at the end regarding RubyGems.
To which I like to add 2 things:
First:
=======
DHH's oft reached for adage:
'Please Do Investigate'
If you think you can devise a better packaging system that RubyGems please,
please have a go. Even if you only get start maybe it'll inspire someone
else to pick up your work and continue with it.
Rails and Ruby community are very open to embracing better solutions if you
make a compelling case for them. Examples: REST, Rack, Github etc
Second
=======
Ruby has a Philosophy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_%28programming_language%29
What doesn't tend to get traction is Puby/Juby - Ruby written like
Perl/Python/Java
Obfuscation goes against the grain in Ruby. Where as Perl is proud of it's
Golf.
By all means use other languages, projects like Nanite exemplify how you can
integrate other technologies with an elegant Ruby wrapper.
