[LRUG] Client Handover

Hola El Rug,

I shall be moving overseas in a few months and I'd like to hand over a client to someone based in London before I go. The client is a central London-based clothier who makes very good suits, and I know he values someone being able to pop around to his shop every once in a while to chat with him about how it's going -- which I won't be able to do once I've moved.

I host a Rails application I built for him which manages all his customers and their orders. These days the app runs on Rails 2.3.4. It started on 1.1.x, just before Rails adopted a RESTful style, so it's non-RESTful. Having said that, it's got good test coverage and it's stable: it's generated just one exception in the past three years.

There's usually very little to do apart from send an invoice once a month for the hosting. Recently though we agreed a spec (but not a price) to extend the app to give him stock control / inventory management. I think tackling this would be a great way for someone to get to know the client, the code, and the business.

I will help you transfer the app to your own hosting environment, introduce you to the client, talk you through the code, and do anything else for this to go smoothly. I'll also be happy to answer any questions down the line.

On a personal level, the client is a very nice chap and his suits really are very good!

If you're interested, please drop me a line directly (boss at airbladesoftware.com).

Yours,
Andy Stewart
