Hi LRUG,

Yet another Ruby job listing! We're looking for a bit of an all-rounder
really but Ruby & RoR dev is going to be the bulk of the work. We're
imaging someone looking for their 2nd job out of uni - that kind of
experience level.

The customer-facing website is www.youhome.co.uk but most of the work
(and the more interesting stuff) is internal stuff.

If you're interested get in touch : chris at yougroup.co.uk

Thanks for listening,
Chris

Software Developer / Admin Role

Award-winning, mould-breaking, technology-focused start-up in the
residential property sector (running for 3 1/2 years) is looking for an
all round intelligent & disciplined software developer with some
sysadmin experience.

Candidates should have a couple of years real-world web development
experience on an Open-source platform (ideally Ruby on Rails & MYSQL
running on Redhat).

Working in a friendly small team, the successful candidate will be
working on all aspects of the system - design, implementation &

will take initiative and contribute ideas that will help evolve the
business.

The bulk of the role is being a software developer, keeping the existing
system running while adding new functionality and reworking flawed parts
of existing system. They will be expected to take a share of the
sysadmin responsibilities.

System briefly comprises an external customer-facing website, an
internal data management system and analytical technology.

Key Responsibilities:
     * Maintain existing RoR applications - not just bug fixes but adding
in new functionality and taking ownership of existing parts
     * Maintain production Redhat servers
     * Writing data-import / data-manipulation scripts

Key Skills:
     * OO Programming (Ruby & Ruby on Rails)
     * Ability to learn a large, complex system quickly
     * SQL (MYSQL)
     * HTML / Javascript / CSS
     * Version Control (SVN)
     * Unix (Redhat)
     * Webserver (Nginx / Passenger)
     * Excellent communication skills
     * 2:1 degree in CS-based discipline

Nice-to-haves:
     * Third-party API integration (Google Maps, Google Chart)
     * Experience of handling scaling issues
     * BIND
     * TDD
     * Agile development experience

NOTE: Candidates without Ruby or Ruby on Rails experience will still be
considered if they can demonstrate OO programming experience and an
ability to pick up new languages quickly.
