I keep hearing good things about FreshBooks. They offer a free trial.
http://www.freshbooks.com/ Everyone does, really.

We've recently been looking at more complete SaaS accounting
solutions, particularly ones with a proper stock system.

Brightpearl
http://www.brightpearl.com/
(PHP/Symfony)
Expensive (at least double the price of the competition), but fairly
complete. Has inventory support, including stock locations.

Xero
http://www.xero.com
(Ruby/Rails)
Less expensive, with holes filled by third-party services. Two plugins
available for inventory. Recommended by some people who don't suck.

Free Agent
http://www.freeagent.com/
(Ruby/Rails)
No proper inventory support, so not for people who sell widgets. Also
recommended by some people who don't suck.

Kashflow
http://www.kashflow.com/
(ASP)
Inexpensive for single users, if you can stand knowing it runs on a
nose-to-tail Microsoft stack.

ClearBooks
http://www.clearbooks.co.uk/
(PHP?)

I hope this is useful to you and to posterity!
