A bit of research throws up a number of service providers who do this sort of thing (sendgrid, mailjet, mailchimp etc) but within our team we don't have personal experience of using any of them. Does anyone out there have any recommendations based on your experience?

I've been using PostMark very happily for the past 18 months. Reliable service, nice gem that makes it easy to integrate into ActiveMailer, and if you care about bounces etc they can send your service a POST on that event too etc..
