Lead Front End Developer / Ruby on Rails Developer – HTML5 , CSS, JavaScript and Ruby - £50-60,000 + excellent benefits
Highly successful and rapidly expanding organisation has an number of openings in it's technology team. As a Lead Developer you'll live and breathe digital, be passionate about shaping and delivering great digital products and be comfortable working in a highly collaborative team. You'll be working with our Product and UX teams to develop prototypes in order to quickly establish the business ideas. You’ll be confident leading a team, adept at working in fast paced Agile teams and will be proactive in looking for cross-organisational collaboration. You'll be educated to degree level, have a Professional certification in Software Programming languages such as Java or equivalent along with outstanding skills in front-end frameworks, application technologies and enterprise databases.
In this role you will lead a team of internal software developers in designing, developing and maintaining bespoke software. Provide advice and support to the 3rd party development teams
Principal Accountabilities
·     Coach, guide and mentor the Digital Development team and provide line management
·     Provide technical direction to a group of developers on digital projects run internally as well as externally
·     Work with the Business and other Technology teams in establishing the non-functional requirements in order to meet the Product goals
·     Work with the Analysts, UI designers and Product Managers to create rapid prototypes and assess the feasibility of design with time and cost constraints
·     Be aware of the latest Digital technology trends and recommend their adoption to enrich their customer experience
·     Work with the Agile scrums teams, remove blockers and ensure a smooth flow of the development artefacts into operations
·     Comply and contribute to the departmental as well as company standards and procedures
Key Performance Indicators
·     The team is motivated to deliver the Digital projects on time, to the specification and in line with best practices
·     The UI design and Product teams receive adequate technical support during the Product concept phase
·     Best practices and department’s technical guidelines are evolved through collaborative review sessions
·     Operations team get timely advise and speedy resolution to the production issues
·     Continuous improvements are visible in the code quality metrics and productivity stats reported
Skills:
·     Strong reputation for creativity, flexibility, versatility and problem solving.
·     Excellent collaboration, negotiation and communication skills.
·     Ability to interpret the Product requirements and translate them into rapid prototypes and backlogs
·     Working knowledge in both UI and Server side design patterns
·     Working knowledge of development tools (CI, Github, IDEs, Junit, PMD, Maven etc)
·     Strong awareness of latest digital technology trends
·     Core skills required include HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and Ruby and My SQL or MS SQL
Desirable
·     Client side technologies such as JQuery,JSON, XML and frameworks including AJAX and Responsive design
·     Server Side technologies such as Spring, Hibernate and templating engines (JSP/Velocity)
·     Enterprise technologies such as CMS, Blogging platforms (Wordpress, Drupal), semantic search, content syndication, payment services etc
·     Familiarity with usability, accessibility, WAI and Web 2.0 standards
Experience:
·     Proven experience as a Lead Developer (must have experience leading and mentoring fast paced agile development teams delivering modern, high-volume, and content-rich digital applications)
·     Recognition of achievements amongst peer community
Qualifications:
·     A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software programming
Degree in Computer Science and a professional certification in Java or equivalent is desirable.
