I've noticed agency recruiters encroaching onto the LRUG list. The recent
trend from my point of view has been less desirable teams to work for have
gone out to multiple agencies out of desperations in the hopes that they
will solve their staffing issues. The problem is that agency recruiters
generally all use the same pool of job board candidates so the effect is
that it actually damages the client companies name when candidates are
called about them 3 times in one day by junior resourcers reading from a
script. More desirable companies generally keep the number agencies they are
working with low maintaining the image to job seekers as exclusive,
selective & prestigious.
You'll probably see more and more agency recs coming on here and flagrantly
posting jobs as more of these general recs get given RoR roles to work.
Please don't tar all recs with the same brush , I've always been very
careful never to post jobs or be a nuisance on here. (and I'm very very
slowly working my way through rails tutorials at weekends ;))
Best, Louis

"Louis found my dream job for me. He took a lot of time to get to know me
and what I was looking for. He's obviously got a lot of connections and was
able to offer me a variety of roles. Louis actually knows what he's talking
about when it comes to Ruby-on-Rails, which is pretty much unique for a
recruiter. He gave me advice on what course of action is best for me, helped
me rewrite my CV as I was underselling myself and prepared me for my
interviews. Highly recommended!" <http://uk.linkedin.com/in/louisbeardsley>

Hi James,
Have you decided whether you would like to use agencies to fill this role? I
do a lot of work in Ruby.

It's getting to the point where putting a multiple choice question on
subscription validation to ensure the people subscribing to the list:
a) Are at least beginner Ruby programmers
b) Understand the difference between "Reply to sender" and "Reply to every
Ruby programmer in Greater London, the Home Counties,
and a few elsewhere in the UK to boot"?
Might be a significant valuable addition to the list. :-|
