[LRUG] Where would you look for a job or next hire?

Coming back to this, I've now tried a bunch of those with the same
role (I'm doing science here people!) to see what response was like.
Quick summary:

* 3Desk - wow, I've never been spammed so much in my life from a
company, Christ. Put me right off, and didn't get anyone through who
was worth interview, I wouldn't use again mostly due to the amount of
email they blasted at me over the course of the week and then
following that until I unsubbed (even though I'd never subbed!) and
marked as spam.

* Hacker Jobs - nothing.

* Chinwag Jobs - nothing.

* Stack Overflow - just doing first role on there now - left them to
last as so spendy (£240) but they have a no quibble refund so figured
it was worth a punt. I'll report back.

Stuff I've found useful over the month long trials of spending on
finding outside of network:

* CWjobs at approx £320 per month for their database search. Job ads
are crap though. You don't get much through them and it's a bit of pot
luck as to when, but if you had an internal HR or resourcer having a
look in once a week/month I think you'd build a decent pipeline for a
very cut price on agency fees - though time intensive

* LinkedIn Inmails have a good response for me - but I think this is a
lot down to who you are, what you're offering and how you word stuff
(we're completely open with full job details and only approach 100%
fits who we can tell are about to jump ship). But again, for £45 a
month or so it's good enough value to continue. Didn't try their job
postings. Might do in future.

Overall, none of these compare to referrals (which are our main source
of finding the best people), but nice to know where to look and where
not to waste time when you are looking and your network has come up
blank.

Hope this is helpful.
