Dear LRUG,

I’m a long-time lurker and I think this might be my first post, so please be gentle. I’m a regular at NWRUG, but I wanted to cast the net a little wider. :)

I’m CTO and co-owner of a small software company based in Manchester called Swirrl (http://swirrl.com). We create beautiful and powerful data solutions for organisations who want to open up their data for both humans and machines; mostly public sector clients at the moment. We do a bit of bespoke data-driven visualisations and applications for our clients, but most of our work is based around our data publishing platform, PublishMyData (http://swirrl.com/publishmydata), which we continue to develop.

We’re looking for software engineers to join our small team of friendly nerds (http://swirrl.com/about) to work on open data and open source projects and products. We’re after people who can balance writing beautiful code with shipping on time, and who understand that design is how thinks work not just how they look.

Most of our code is Ruby (Rails) and JavaScript, but we’ll consider experts in other modern web frameworks. We specialise in publishing Linked Data, so some experience with RDF, SPARQL and other semantic web tech would be useful, though we realise this is a bit niche. As we’re a small but growing company, you’d probably have to wear a few different hats, so design or DevOps experience would be a plus too.

We think we’re a pretty good place to work: we’ve got an open & equitable pay structure with profit sharing, options for remote or flexible working, and you can specify a work computer of your choice. We’ve also recently moved into a nice knew office in Manchester’s Northern Quarter (5 mins walk from Piccadilly station, 10 mins from Victoria), where we’ll supply you with soft drinks and espresso if you work from the office.

Preferably we’d like to hire another permanent member of staff, but we’re also always on the look out for good freelancers/contractors to help us with spikes in workload.

More details here: http://swirrl.com/jobs. To apply or find out more, send an email to jobs at swirrl.com - it will come direct to me.

I look forward to hopefully hearing from some of you. Cheers,
Ric
