I'm going to touch on this a little more on Monday but yeah, CS degrees are
not a requirement for building good software or even learning about "hard"
CS things. Lot's of developers who are better than me don't have one. I
have one but all that means for me is that I spent three years once
coasting my way to a third.
I think adding that requirement to your job spec might help to use as a
filter if you want to quickly triage a list of thousands of candidates,
though I'd be genuinely surprised if "too many candidates for an
experienced developer role" is a problem anyone on this list has.
