Hi Seung-Hyo, everyone,

If a UK company (startup or otherwise) wishes to hire a software engineer
from anywhere in the world under a Tier 2 (General) Visa, they definitely
can.

It's a process. As the hiring company, you pay a good immigration lawyer
fees of £1,000-£4,000 (depending on complexity), do what they say, pay
£1,000 in visa fees/other disbursements. Allow 10-14 weeks from start to
finish. Be sensible and your new hire can contract remotely from his/her
home country in the meantime.

I've secured 6 or 7 Tier 2 visas in this way since 2007, and the
money/timescales aren't daunting if the result is you get to hire a great
colleague onto your team.

Seung-Hyo -- as for looking for a job at a startup -- inevitably, I
recommend timing a trip to London with the next Silicon Milkroundabout
(15th/16th November). Drop me an email off-thread if you have any questions.

Good luck!

Pete
