Hi all,

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month.

The pinch is a reminder that the September LRUG meeting is in a week’s time
on the 8th of September. 6pm doors for 6:30 start at the Vonage offices on
Bonhill Street (it’s between Old Street and Moorgate tube stations). We
have two great talks lined up: “Extreme Versioning” by Harry Lascelles and
“Inheriting Gems” by Karl Lingiah. More details on the talks and venue at
https://lrug.org/meetings/2025/september/ and you can sign up for a free
ticket at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/lrug/1819832

The punch is our general call for talks and venues for our upcoming
meetings.

For venues we have Bloom & Wild hosting us on Monday October 13th, but we
need venues for all the meetings after that (Mondays November 10th,
December 8th, January 12th, February 9th etc…). We don’t need much - space
for 20-50 folk (more for Feb as that’s usually a big meeting) - some kind
of screen to present via, wifi for the presenters so we can run it through
a zoom call to capture the slides + voice and get a “free” recording.
Anything more than that (food, drink, better AV) is a bonus! Get in touch
at sponsors at lrug.org and we’ll sort things out. You can even fill out a
form to let us know about your venue: https://forms.gle/PmNKntNR5MDxka8V9

For talks we need stuff to fill those meetings. Perhaps you got rejected
from the 2025 conference season and want to share you talk with us anyway?
Perhaps you want to rehease something you’re thinking of proposing for the
2026 conference season? Perhaps you’ve got an idea for a practical event?
Perhaps you’ve recently learned how some gem or part of a gem, or even
single method in the standard library works and want to share that?
Perhaps you’ve written a play imagining what the rubygems server is like
behind the scenes if we anthropomorphised all the gems (nokogiri is
defintely grumpy, httparty is on a constant party bender, rails is nouveau
riche, minitest has a chip on its shoulder, etc…). Whatever it is get in
touch at talks at lrug.org and we’ll give you whateer help you want to that
idea into something that fills a slot at a future meeting.

See you on the 8th!
