Hi everyone, Ellen from Clova here again advertising a brand new role. I'm
offering referral vouchers at £500 for this, so if you think a friend might
be interested, please connect us!
This role suits someone with rich Ruby experience, frontend proficiency,
and people management experience. You will truly make an impact in this
position. Whether you're a hands-on Manager right now or a Tech Lead with
people management experience, it could be a good fit.
Engineering Manager (60% hands-on) - Ruby on Rails
This is a fantastic opportunity for a friendly leader to join a growing
company in the leisure/travel industry.
You will support the team as they build a sophisticated booking engine, and
complete the transition away from .NET to Ruby on Rails version 8, which is
well underway/ almost finished.
Essentials:
- Hands-on Ruby on Rails experience is essential, as you'll be 50/60%
hands-on. You will spend the rest of your time line-managing a team of 6
Software Engineers.
- The Engineering team consists of mid level Engineers (the most
experienced Engineer has 6 yrs).
- 6 direct reports. 4 in London consisting of 2 back end using Ruby & 2
front end using Next.js. For now they also have 2 contractors in South
Africa maintaining the .NET system whilst the transition is completed.
- Hybrid in London, Shoreditch 3 days a week.
- Salary: £110k & great benefits like 25 days off (+ bank hols), health
insurance, company socials, B-corp organisation, and more
- The company acts as a matchmaker for luxury holidays, pairing clients
(usually entrepreneurs, actors, artists, influencers) with unforgettable
accommodation & seamless experiences across Europe.
- Company tech environment: Ruby on Rails, Postgres, React, Next.js,
AWS, Agile, CI/CD, multiple daily deployments, TDD
- This role has strong visibility within the business, so you'll need to
communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders,
particularly
non-technical individuals.
The company started in 2002 and having received ongoing investment from a
well-known firm. The tech team has received lots of investment and growth
in the last couple of years, resulting in overall company improvements and
success. Despite growth and investment, they are keen to maintain their
friendly vibe and sociable start-up culture.
Interview process:
- Interview with me (20 mins)
- Interview with their HR manager (40 mins)
- Technical Interview with their fractional CTO (1 hr)
- Final stage in their office where you'll meet the team (a couple of
hrs)
Extra context: I placed a Ruby Engineer with this company in 2024 who is
doing really well, progressing quickly and enjoying it. They have an
incredibly diverse team and they value the rich opinions that this brings.
You need to have the right personality for this role as they value this
equally to tech skills.
