We are organising a cross-language <b>WebTech eXchange</b> in the same
week as the RoR eXchange on <b>May 14+15</b>. Java, .NET, Groovy,
Ruby, flex, javafx... and all the relevant frameworks are presented, as
well as enterprise web architectures and a whole track on Cloud &
Grid. Speakers from Amazon, Tesco, BBC iPlayer and lots more! About 50
expert speakers.<br>

of rails conferences, and a fair few ruby conferences but not many
ruby/python/perl/whatever conferences. QCon does this quite well for
the "enterprise", I think - there aren't many conferences where I can
go and see a talk about Java, Ruby and Haskell in the same afternoon.
I think its a bit of a shame that mostly we end up getting locked into
language silos, where you only meet people from the same language
background.

Ruby Manor was good - I'm sure Murray & James can give you lots of
advice. From a personal point of view I could stand to spend a bit
more than the £12 it cost for that - but only if it went towards
getting speakers from outside London/the UK. I didn't miss any of the
other things that RubyManor ditched like food & swag.

I'm very keen on organising a Ruby on Rails conference in London, in the
summer (provisionally, July), for Rails enthusiasts.
I'm still at the planning stage at the moment: trying to get an idea for the
number of delegates that might want to come, the budget available, getting
in touch with potential speakers, looking for sponsors, assessing venues
with the appropriate facilities, etc.
I figure that you guys will have some good tips or ideas, maybe some
suggestions or volunteers for speakers or sponsors? I have had a couple of
positive responses from some high profile speakers already, but I'd rather
reach people directly or through someone they already know, rather than a
more impersonal e-mail.
At this early stage nothing is set in stone, but I'm hoping to emulate the
very excellent Scotland on Rails event, so something like of a two day
conference, with a great line-up of speakers and keynotes. If I can arrange
a tutorial day, some evening social events and a panel Q&A / discussion
session that would be a great addition.
So, I just wanted to get some feedback from you guys, any thoughts?
