As the August LRUG registration goes up I realise that my sporadic attendance of LRUG in recent months has been, at least in part, because I find the Slaughtered Lamb a bit too noisy and crowded to be able to comfortably chat to fellow LRUGers post meet.<br>
</blockquote><div> </div><div>When we moved to the Goswell Road venue I did a mini pub crawl with some other LRUG booze hounds because I had similar concerns. Problem is it's pretty slim pickings around here, and despite the shortcomings The Slaughtered Lamb might be the best option. It does food too, which is nice.</div>
<div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">How about a change of pub venue for after the meeting?<br><br>Here are some pubs a similar distance away from the meet<br>
<br>- The Old Ivy House (<a href="http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/the-old-ivy-house/141" target="_blank">http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/the-old-ivy-house/141</a>)<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>Didn't try this one, but it looks pretty small from the outside.</div>
<div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">
- The White Lion (<a href="http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/white-lion/265" target="_blank">http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/white-lion/265</a>)<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>We tried this at the end of the night, it's actually reasonably-sized. Our misgivings were that it seemed pretty local; perhaps the sort of place where there might be friction with the regulars should 50 or more ruby programmers pitch up on a Monday night and crowd the bar for 30 mins.</div>
<div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">- The Chequers (<a href="http://www.randompubfinder.com/review.php?Name=The_Chequers,_44_Old_Street&Pub=789" target="_blank">http://www.randompubfinder.com/review.php?Name=The_Chequers,_44_Old_Street&Pub=789</a>)<br>
</blockquote><div><br></div><div>Didn't try it. Could be worth a go.</div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">
- The Sutton Arms (<a href="http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/50/5043/Sutton_Arms/Clerkenwell" target="_blank">http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/50/5043/Sutton_Arms/Clerkenwell</a>) - this is opposite the Slaughtered Lamb but is perhaps a bit small for us all.<br>
</blockquote><div><br></div><div>Yeah, that was our conclusion too. It seemed like a nice pub, but it's pretty tiny in there.</div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">
I'll have to admit to not getting very hands on with this research so I haven't actually visited any of these, except for the Sutton Arms. However I feel confident that some more dedicated beer afficionados on the LRUG list might have already scoped these out and be able to give a bit more insight into their suitability.<br>
</blockquote><div><br></div><div>Anyone want to scope out the Old Ivy House and The Chequers and report back? Also try out The Sutton Arms and The White Lion for a second opinion. Maybe another LRUG Nights (<a href="http://lrug.org/nights">http://lrug.org/nights</a>) to scope out alternative pubs?</div>
<div><br></div><div>Actually, maybe the solution is just to have more regular LRUG Nights? Anyone want to organise one?</div><div><br></div><div>Muz</div></div>
