Then I would like to know how do they gather all the logs, if they use Graylog2 or Splunk. Then if they have any experience to integrate a CI server with github, code climate, a code review system see Gerrit), project management system (like Pivotal Tracker). Probably the most tricky bit would be to see how the candidate can find and fix issues, but your sys admin could help you in this.</div>
<div style><br></div><div style>Another important thing is how the candidate can monitor your apps (New Relic, Munin, Nagios etc...).</div><div style><br></div><div style>An option is to train a Ruby dev with some sys admin skills to become a DevOp, as Louis suggested. The training could be provided by a consultant. There is a London DevOps Google group and you could ask there but they are probably following this list too. A couple of companies I would use are:</div>
<div style><br></div><div style>Bitfield for DevOps with Puppet.</div><div style>Stephen Nelson Smith if you prefer Chef.</div><div style>Another person is Patrick Debois, who's probably one of the best around.<br></div>
<div style>Another guy using Puppet is Noel Sharpe who is more specialised in PHP but he is provides consultants through his company.</div><div style>Louis is a recruiter I would use, if you want to follow the recruiter path. Disclaimer: I have worked on contracts provided both by Noel and Louis.</div>

Thanks Thayer. A few people have now said to me that I should consider paying someone to interview candidates for us, which is something we're considering. So seems to be fairly common as a good approach.
