<div dir="ltr">Hi Klaus,<div><br></div><div>I have never used DO but they are quite popular. I had a look at their web site and they use KVM. KVM should be quite performant but the cpu_model settings can vary the performance of a VPS. On EC2 depending on the instance you choose CPU can be shared or dedicated, and you can have more of them. The same should be with DO, may be but upgrading VPS you could have a reserved CPU, but it would be useful if you could add some more info on the plan you have. I am also curious about how you can say that other VPSs were stealing your CPU time. I have a similar setup on Linode and I do not have those problems. I am using three Linode 4G, on every server I have MySql with Passenger and Sphinx and it is working well. I had issues with the 2GB VPS because some spikes of traffic was saturating the RAM and swap. AWS is another good alternative.</div><div><br></div><div>That DNS latency in not acceptable, and it is the first time I am hearing that. But you could choose providers specialised in DNS, Zerigo is one. Having a Geo located DNS could help, in the future, to route traffic to different datacenters depending of where the user is and could provide a bit of fault-tollerance in case of a datacenter failure.</div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On 4 March 2015 at 09:40, Klaus Hebsgaard <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:klaus@hebsgaard.dk" target="_blank">klaus@hebsgaard.dk</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr">Hi<div><br></div><div>I am the developer and siteOp for Be My Eyes.</div><div>Currently we host our site on Digital Ocean (DO) and we are pretty happy with them, they even provided us with at lot of free hosting.</div><div>We have 2 load balancers, 3 web servers and 3 db hosts.</div><div><br></div><div>However we have had a few issues with the VPS'ese on DO.</div><div><br></div><div>- We had some problem with other VPS'ese stealing cpu time from our VPS.</div><div>- We had problems with DNS latency (we are talking seconds here)</div><div><br></div><div>Each time we found a problem they did not trap it in any kind of monitoring.</div><div><br></div><div>So my question is: Is this what we should expect from VPS?
