<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; line-break: after-white-space;" class="">Hello again, fine people of LRUG & friends,<div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Tonight is our first attempt at running LRUG online! It’s going to be an adventure for sure, but before we get into some of the logistics, here's a quick reminder of the essential details:</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">“Doors” are at 6:20</div><div class="">Register here: <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lrug-april-2020-the-social-distancing-edition-tickets-100994264564" class="">https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lrug-april-2020-the-social-distancing-edition-tickets-100994264564</a></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">For this first meeting, we’re going to be using Zoom[1], graciously provided by Cleo (<a href="https://meetcleo.com" class="">https://meetcleo.com</a>). Thanks Cleo!</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Many of you will already be using this software to work remotely, but in case not, you may wish to install it at some point today before the meeting. It’s available in various app stores, and also for your computer at <a href="https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting" class="">https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting</a></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">The reason you MUST register is that we’ll be sending out the meeting invitation only to the attendee list, rather than tweeting it or posting it here. We’re pretty close to “capacity” at the moment, but will be making more tickets available if the Zoom account permits — we’re just checking that now, so please do add yourself to the wait-list if it’s active, there’s an excellent chance that it’ll be fine, but if you’re not signed up, you won’t be able to join.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">When you join the meeting, you’ll be automatically muted by the host; this is normal, and your microphone isn’t broken. I’m not 100% sure if/how we will run the normal “announcements” segment, but in case we don’t, why not just send your announcement to this here mailing list as well or instead?</div><div class=""><div><br class=""></div><div>We have two talks, which you can read more about on our website: <a href="http://lrug.org/meetings/2020/april/" class="">http://lrug.org/meetings/2020/april/</a> . Many thanks to Joel and Rob for agreeing to give this a shot. And as ever, we always need more volunteers, the rest of the year is wiiiiide open, and it’s never been more convenient to give a talk at LRUG — now you don’t even need to leave your house!</div><div><br class=""></div><div>Anyway, that’s it really. Please make sure you register, and we will be sending out the meeting details, via email, at around 5:45.</div><div><br class=""></div><div>See you there,</div><div><br class=""></div><div>— James & the LRUG long-distance organisation committee</div><div><br class=""></div><div><br class=""></div><div>[1]: Yes, we have some reservations about Zoom too, and we’ll be exploring alternatives for future events.</div><div><br class=""><blockquote type="cite" class=""><div class="">On 25 Mar 2020, at 10:53, James Adam <<a href="mailto:james@lazyatom.com" class="">james@lazyatom.com</a>> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><div class=""><div class="">Hey folks,<br class=""><br class="">Well, what a crazy few weeks this has been in London, in the UK and, indeed, the whole world. These are truly strange times. But even though we’re all staying indoors as much as possible (and we all are, I hope!), that doesn’t mean we need to be completely disconnected from the community at large.<br class=""><br class="">We’ve done some testing, and we think we can pull off an online version of LRUG. We’ve got two speakers lined up (still room for one more!), and so let’s give it a go, yeah? Why not.<br class=""><br class="">So, your next LRUG:<br class=""><br class="">When: April 6th, joining at 6:20pm for a 6:30pm meeting start<br class="">Where: The Grid<br class="">More details: <a href="http://lrug.org/meetings/2020/april/" class="">http://lrug.org/meetings/2020/april/</a><br class=""><br class="">Please don’t forget to register, as only those who register will be sent the relevant details to connect on the night.<br class=""><br class="">Thanks, and hope to “see” you then!<br class=""><br class="">— James & the LRUG Emergency Response Committee<br class=""><br class=""><br class=""></div></div></blockquote></div><br class=""></div></body></html>
