Hi all,

Long time lurker on LRUG here. My company, British Business Bank, is currently looking to hire two Ruby developers to join our new internal team at the bank.

Who are BBB? In short, they’re the UK’s economic development bank which means they support small-medium enterprises to grow and succeed using government funding (and other revenue streams which I won’t bore you with).

BBB have a Ruby on Rails application which since COVID-19 has become a key piece of technology at the bank. It is responsible for processing and managing millions of loans taken by SMEs during the pandemic, ensuring those businesses stayed
solvent and didn’t go under while the economy was shutdown. You may have heard of the Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS) - that’s one of the products in this application.

Through our APIs and frontend UI the app is integrated with every big-name UK bank you’ve heard of - and many other smaller ones you haven’t heard of.

The app was built and is maintained by thoughtbot, so we follow all the best practices you’d expect - high code quality, agile methodologies, TDD, CI/CD, continuous improvement, code reviews, pair programming.

I’m formerly of thoughtbot and now at the bank as Development Team Lead, looking to transition the team to a hybrid model - two internal developers, supported by two external thoughtbot developers. I’m sure many of you have heard of thoughtbot
and they really are a great bunch to work alongside.

The two internal developers are what this email relates to. It will be hybrid working, ideally with two days in the office (central London or Sheffield), but there is flexibility on that.
