Cairo: http://cairographics.org/ has ruby bindings:
http://cairographics.org/rcairo/. You can put this in a window with
ruby-gtk2: http://ruby-gnome2.sourceforge.jp/

Specifically, create a Gdk::Pixmap and get a cairo context by calling
@pixmap.create_cairo_context.
