Note to group: I sent the above message privately today to try to help  
further Vahagn's career, but since he has chosen to bring this out to

Ouch.

@Vahagn: my intention was not to offend you. There are many reasons  
for choosing a salary to offer and I think carefully before giving any  
figure to a prospective employee. I do this to make sure it's a fair  
reflection of the value I believe that employee would offer to our  
specific company. Your skillset may well be a better fit in a  
different company: I would expect them to make you a higher offer.  
Although you have said you aren't interested, I'm happy to speak  
further privately should you want to in future, rather than boring the  
group with specifics.

Well, I'm very happy to discuss salary decision processes if people  
are interested. I believe ours is fair and reasonable. I'm certainly  
not interested in hiring 'cheap' people or competing solely on price,  
as appears to be inferred by the above remarks.
