The criticism that's been made of much of formal education is that it
doesn't prepare one for 'real world'. I think in some part that's why Agile
and Software Craftsmanship have emerged - to fill the gaps.

In my employment history far too few companies set aside any resources to
encourage and facilitate staff development.
