Hi all,

Apologies if this is off topic.

But after speaking to a few of you on the Monday night after LRUG it seemed like more of us are playing part architect with our apps these days, and have a growing interest in the metal that makes the Heroku, Cloud 66s and so on available to us.

I'm organising an event as part of the Cleanweb UK meetup group, talking about reducing the environmental impact of cloud computing, at the snazzy new Open Data Institute offices on Worship Street, from 7:30 next week.

Who's speaking

Francine Bennett, CEO of Mastodon C, talking about reducing the environmental impact of big data, and what immediate steps you can take (hosting your EC2 boxes in Oregon DC's costs the same, for about a third of the carbon emitted, for example…)

Nigel Stevens from Infinity SDC, is talking about creating environmentally-friendly, data centres, specifically the world's first zero carbon, biogas powered data centre in Martlesham.

Andy Piper from VMware is talking about Cloud Foundry, an open source PaaS, written in largely in ruby, and used by a few PaaS providers, like appfog.

It'd be great to see a few of you there, and if any of this piques your interest, you can see more here at the event page:

Yes, there will be a few drinks and nibbles, and visiting of pubs after.

Thanks!

Chris
