[LRUG] Finding out why server was unresponsive

This sounds like a networking issue to me. Was the server reporting to New
Relic? Was it reporting anything locally (ganglia, collectd, vnstat,
sysstat, ntop etc.)? If you don't want anything complicated, at least set
up vnstat & sysstat locally, they come in handy when troubleshooting these
kind of issues.

I've never used Hetzner, so I can't comment. I can personally recommend OVH
& Leaseweb, have pushed many hundreds of TBs over their networks without
any hiccups.
