Hello LRUG,
I'll be at the meeting tonight, but I wanted to wave a heads-up for
those who may not be able to attend to get in touch directly.
I'm involved in the creation of a new "code boot camp", which is being
bootstrapped with a social consciousness at its heart. Its one job is
to increase the net new entrants into the software development
community; no investors trying to recoup, no owners looking to pivot.
Just a non-profit looking to turn any excess income into bursaries for
the next cohort of students.
But just because the company is not-for-profit, doesn't me you need to
be - the positions will be paying equivalent rates to the coding-only
roles that are competing for your attention.
Oh... maybe one hiccup (or extra attractive feature depending...) -
we're based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and even further north!
There's a little more detail below, and please grab me tonight if you
want any questions answered.
Cheers,
Michael Pavling
==============
Here at the new digital skills academy we're looking for versatile and
confident instructors, enthusiastic to shape the skills, habits, and
outcomes of new entrants to the world of software development.
We're recruiting for a spread of positions within the team; those able
to lead a course from start to finish and motivate a cohort of
students through new, complex ideas; and those who can support the
delivery of the course with their own experience in software
development. The courses are on-site eight hours a day, five days a
week, for 16 weeks.
The ideal candidates will be fluent or familiar in some or all of the
following topics: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby, Java, TDD, computer
science. You don't need to have taught before - you'll get trainer
training qualifications yourself (but it's great if you have some
experience in the field). You may have worked in start-ups, big
business or academia - to give students the most accurate possible
preparation for a career in this industry, we need to bring a wide
range of experiences to the table.
You'll also be bringing your skills to bear at times onto the
academy’s internal management software and curriculum delivery tools,
keeping hands-on skills, learning new things from your team-mates, and
demonstrating constant best-practices to the students.
It's an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the first immersive
programs of its type in Scotland, and you will play a key role in
helping people enter or return to the workforce, and be involved with
growing the delivery of the courses around the country.
