Hi Andrew,
Some ideas (and assuming some of your profile from the subject):
- Ask about the team structure, size and how many seniors would be there to learn from (maybe check team members (and companies' open-source projects) out on StackOverflow, Github or Linkedin). I tend to recommend juniors seek out bigger teams (8+), for obvious reasons.
- Most will, but check they're good TDD practitioners
- How much project ownership will you be given and what do they have coming up? If you're junior, they may give you more maintenance work to start, but ask what is coming up past that.
- Check the Rails version. Rails 4 is a good indicator that they've got it together.
- Functional Progamming available? Big tick.
There's a good deal of variation out there, but if you ask these questions (it may be that you have to at interview, and so need to invest in committing to apply to a role based on only some or possibly not all of this info) you should have an idea of the fit for your particular aspirations.
Best,
Leo

Subject: [LRUG] [JOBS] Junior/Intermediate Looking for work
Hi all,
As a new Ruby on Rails developer in London, what is the best way of a) finding work and b) sussing out which companies have a good culture and would be a good fit for me? Obviously all the usual channels through regular job searching provide a deluge of offers but it's somewhat difficult to differentiate. Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Andrew
