Hi all,
The August LRUG meeting will be on Monday 14th and at the moment it’s only
half full :(
We have a bunch of people on our volunteer list who have deferred on August
meaning this is a great chance to have an idea for a talk and get it in
front of people quickly. For reference it’s often a two or three months
between volunteering to talk at LRUG and a slot being available for that
talk.
We give folk 10, 25, or 40 minutes for their talks and for August we have
space for any length of talk. If we get lots of volunteers we have space
to pick more than one 10 minute talk, or just one 25 or 40. But have no
fear, if you volunteer we’ll get round to you eventually (hopefully sooner
rather than later) - there’s an LRUG every month after all!
We’re particularly keen to hear from new speakers, but all volunteers will
get a chance to speak. You needn’t offer a traditional talk either. We’ve
only 40 minutes spare for August, but we’ve got 1hr 30mins for a full
meeting every month and we don’t just have to fill that with
presentations. In the past we’ve run panels (
http://lrug.org/meetings/2012/march/), a battleships tournament (
http://lrug.org/meetings/2011/october/), code golf (
http://lrug.org/meetings/2011/may/), and a code dojo (
http://lrug.org/meetings/2009/september/). It’s been a while since we did
one of these events but it would be super exciting to do another if you
felt up to the challenge.
If you suggest a talk, or some other kind of thing, the LRUG organising
team are available to give you any help you need: a quick pass over a topic
idea to see what parts to focus on in a talk, a rehearsal of your talk,
advice on moderating a panel, tips on how to run a practical event given
our time constraints; whatever you need we’re there to help you out.
Looking forward to hearing from you all with your talk and event ideas!
Cheers,
Murray
