Hi All,

I am excited to organise this year our second edition of the London Ruby
Unconference
<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/london-ruby-unconference-tickets-36286901098?aff=LondonRubyUserGroup>
that
will be on the 7th of October, 2007. carwow is sponsoring the venue so it
will take place at their HQ in Holborn.

The unconference is the space where the London Ruby community can meet to
learn from each other.

Unlike a conference, where there are few designated speakers, in an
Unconference anyone can suggest topics for dicussion, and rather than
presentations, we have discussions, where everyone is welcome to contribute.

*Reason 1. Technical workshops*

As a hobby, this year I attended the British Acrobatics Convention and in
this event the participants offered workshops. This is specially important
to learn a new skill. So that in this year we will have workshops as well.

As a leader of a workshop, a participant prepares in advance a short
hands-on tutorial. Then he or she teaches a small group how to use a
specific tool, solve a particular type of problem, or use a particular
framework.

This year, we will have a workshop on Elixir, for those who want to learn
this new language. I have been attending the Elixir Dojo this year and it
is a beautiful language to code.

Another workshop will help create a "pipeline that will get you excited!" A
pipeline contains a series of steps that are used to take our code from
development into production. Let’s see how much excitement can we generate
with this!

*Reason 2 The Topics*

I feel that the unconference format is an ideal playground to complement
our software development skills with soft skills such leading discussions
and technical communication.

By moderating a topic, one can learn to address a technical audience,
moderate a conversation, improve our communication skills and develop
stronger ties to the community.

Hence, we are offering special discounted tickets to those participants
that are bringing their own topics and are helping to moderate a discussion
on this. The discount code is LEADER. By entering this promotional code in
Eventbrite one can get up to 40% off the general price.

Some of the first suggested topics are:

-JRuby in 2017 and beyond
-Impact of runtime optimisation on how we write Ruby
-Machine Learning and many more to come!

*Reason 3. Learn from the best*

In the unconference, we have the opportunity to learn from experienced
developers that are shy to take part as speakers in traditional conferences
but can contribute in the discussions.

London is home to great companies with great technical talent. These people
will be around for casual conversations or as participants in the
discussions during the day.

We are organising the event on a Saturday so that technical leaders which
might not be usually available during weekdays can attend.

Employers should be happy to support your ticket as part of your yearly
training budget, please get in touch if you need a formal letter of
invitation for this purpose.

We are also introducing half-day tickets for those who have to be with the
family in the morning but can join us sometime in the afternoon and for the
farewell drinks.

*Reason 4. Inexpensive*

This event is not organised for a profit so the low ticket prices. The
price you pay helps us to cover some marketing and administration expenses
and the bar tab to make the event better. The organisers are all volunteers
running the event.

Please take advantage of the event attending and share the news with your
colleagues and friends!

Don't forget to buy your ticket today!
