Hi all,
I’m a freelance software developer based in London with 14 years' experience with Ruby and am available to join a project in the next few weeks. If you or anybody you know is looking, please feel free to share this and don't hesitate to get in touch at paul at ghostcassette.com
I contributed the function composition operators added in Ruby 2.6 (a six year long tale I documented in my guide to function composition in Ruby https://www.ghostcassette.com/function-composition-in-ruby/ which was featured in Ruby Inside's "Top 6 Ruby Items of 2019") and am the maintainer of open source projects written in Ruby, Clojure, Rust, PHP and JavaScript (https://github.com/mudge) including the Ruby bindings to the re2 regular expression library used in GitLab (https://github.com/mudge/re2).
For the past year I’ve been contracting under my company, Ghost Cassette (https://www.ghostcassette.com), working with clients in London and San Francisco to develop software written in Ruby and JavaScript, helping new teams with their ways of working, their recruitment process, adding major features to existing projects, developing wholly new applications and improving engineering practices through lunch and learns and pair-programming.
Up until the end of 2018, I was CTO of Altmetric (https://www.altmetric.com), originally joining in 2013 to help grow their development team and improve their large, legacy PHP, Ruby and Node.js codebase while scaling their API from 61 million requests per month to over 1 billion requests per month. Prior to that, I was a Technical Lead at the scientific journal Nature (https://www.nature.com) where I led the Web Applications team working on several Ruby on Rails applications including Nature Jobs, Protocols Exchange and the publishing platform used for titles such as Nature Plants.
I've spoken at LRUG twice—"Exploring #to_proc" in March 2015 (http://lrug.org/meetings/2015/march/) and "Managing Web Application Servers with Puppet" in August 2011 (http://lrug.org/meetings/2011/august/)—and you may have seen me present at London Computation Club (https://london.computation.club).
You can find more information about my past roles on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulmucur/ but please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions at all.
Kind regards,
-- Paul
