Hi all,
I'm in the slightly unenviable position of hiring for a role I don't really know much about... so I am looking for candidates, but also for some guidance from the community.
ASMALLWORLD (ASW) is a travel-focused social network (dating back to 2004!) providing members with events, privileges, and community in over 100 cities around the world via the ASW Website, iPhone app and Android app.
The current version of the ASW website was launched in May 2013 and we are improving and adding to our existing features and functionality on an ongoing basis with lots of exciting new projects on the horizon.
Essentially, we want to automate some of our hands-on testing of our web platform (and, later, our iOS and Android clients). I'm not that familiar with the tech involved - something something Selenium something? (halp)
I've seen some impressive demos from prospective candidates... who then turned out to be agencies looking for work. And none of this 'record your browser interaction' nonsense, that seems to always go bad - we're talking actual code, which means it needs to be actual maintained, by an actual code-competent person. Perhaps thats why this is a hard one to hire for :)
We're looking for individuals to integrate fully into our close-knit team, not agencies to multi-task between our tasks and umpteen others, so agency is a no-no currently (and, frankly, for the foreseeable).
So! If you are a whizz at automating browser testing, and are looking for a full-time, long-term permanent contract (monthly retainer based, with paid time off and sick cover - also non-VAT-able, since HQ is in Zurich, Switzerland), let me know and we can discuss.
Alternatively, if you're just really knowledgeable about the state of the art with regards this stuff, i'd really appreciate some insights!
Thanks a lot, El-Rug!
PS I am also looking to hire an experienced back-end or full-stack bod, with Ruby and ideally Java experience. I'll post a separate email on that topic...
