We are a small company working on specialist Rails apps for UK hospitals and seek a mid-level Ruby developer to help us expand. The work is essentially 100% remote with occasional meetings in London. We posted this job advert previously looking for a contractor but now we realise it makes more sense to hire a permanent staff member. The annual salary would be £50-60K per year. We pay rather generous bonuses and there is the possibility of receiving an equity share in the company.

Essential skills required:

- At least 3 years Ruby on Rails experience
- Good SQL skills, ideally with PostgreSQL experience
- Solid Javascript skills, ideally with experience of hotwire stimulus/turbo.
- Experience working in Linux environments using the command line
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a small team

Useful/desirable:

- Docker and docker-compose.
- Azure, AWS or other cloud PaaS/IaaS deployment
- tailwindcss
- Mirth Connect integration engine; HL7/HSCN
- NHS/healthcare experience

Reasons to join us:

Given the small size of our company and team, and the very niche nature of our application, this posting won’t appeal to everyone. But it is a very worthwhile application (to say the least), with an enthusiastic and good-natured team, and we feel there is in fact a very bright future for the company financially. The right person will be compensated properly over time and also experience significant job satisfaction. Certainly within the healthcare space this is a unique opportunity.

Our app has been in continuous development for over twenty years; it started as a Filemaker database and was ported to MySQL/PHP and now is an extremely powerful Rails app using a variety of modern frameworks and tools. You would be a full member of the team and gain unique and valuable experience in the NHS and related health care industries.

Please consider us if you like working on challenging and socially useful applications development. We are a casual and democratic group where good ideas and hard work are appreciated and rewarded.
