Hi all

Re: the below, this is now a 6 month contract.

Hi all

Any senior rubyist's out there looking for a new contract?

I have a position based in Watford, they are good with remote working (require the first 2 weeks on site, one day a month thereafter the rest they're good with remote - equally happy for someone to be on site depending what your preference is).

The company is in a strong phase of growth and due to a new IT infrastructure and product suite they are looking to expand the team with a Contract Full Stack Ruby and Rails Developer. They work in a collaborative Agile environment where you will be working with different departments to come up with the best possible solutions. Product ownership discipline is also being developed to create highly efficient product teams.

Their development approach is a continuous evolving one as they embrace new technologies and if it makes sense for the business then they use it. They always start with Open source tech and encourage community interaction. If they can add something to the community, they will.

Their new tech stack includes Ruby, Rails 5, React.js, Redis, Terraform, Ansible, Postgres.

It's an initial 4 month contract - need someone to start within 4 weeks (latest).

Day rate between 450/550/day depending on experience.

If you want to know more, please get in touch.

Thx for reading.

Charlie ?

Hi all,

A fin-tech start-up I've been working with (originally called GroupLadder, currently rebranding as Imagine Mortgages), is looking for a tech lead to take ownership of their MVP and build out an in-house team. They're hugely ambitious, and have just raised a massive seed round, so it'll be a very big adventure.

Blurb below. If you're interested, CV to will at groupladder.com (or email me if you want an informal chat about it first).

Best,

Patrick

*About us*

At Imagine, we?re building smarter solutions for the mortgage market with the goal to transform access to home finance for millions of disenfranchised people in the U.K. and beyond. We have a huge product vision and need amazing people to help us to bring it to life.

We have just raised a ?6m equity round, the largest seed-stage raise for a FinTech business in Europe. We?re currently a team of 10 and expect there to be more than 20 of us by the end of the year.

So far we?ve been working closely with a development agency to build our customer MVP whilst developing our underwriting and servicing systems in-house. We?re now scaling our in-house engineering team and are looking for a team leader to oversee the development of our web and mobile apps.

This is an incredibly important role, working as the right-hand-person to our CTO and managing the customer-facing engineering team to create a powerful, intuitive and slick product for our borrowers.

*What we can offer:*

   - A highly competitive salary (?75-95k) and equity package
   - The opportunity to work from home once per week.
   - 33 days of holiday per year, including UK public holidays.
   - The chance to shape the technical function of a company that has a big
   vision and a bright future.
   - A role in shaping the ethos, culture and working habits of the
   organisation.
   - An exciting journey alongside a friendly and ambitious founding team.

*You will be responsible for:*

   - Recruiting and managing a team of developers. We aim to scale to a
team of 10 developers by the end of this year, split between our
   customer-facing and underwriting/servicing teams.
   - Architecting a growing, changing system.
   - Taking ownership of the security, integrity and reliability of a
system that processes and holds sensitive financial information.
   - Building products in a lean and iterative manner to accommodate
   evolving requirements.

*We are looking for someone who has:*

   - Experience building products and owning technical systems in a
   start-up environment.
   - Experience across a broad set of web technologies, including
   Ruby/Rails, React Native and AWS.
   - Experience managing the performance and development of high-performing
   engineers.
   - The ability to communicate clearly, effectively and with empathy,
translating between technical, financial and product-related issues with
   ease.

*Logistics*We?ll have a brief introductory phone call to learn more about you and answer any initial questions that you may have.

After that, we may ask you to come in for a 2-hour interview at our offices near Highbury & Islington. You?ll meet with a number of the team and our CEO and CTO will lead the interview.

Hi all

We've had a good year so far. Off the back of some great wins, such as Hubspot coming on board to deliver a unified realtime API for all their development teams, we've been approached by investors recently and are now getting ready for the next stage in our growth.

If you're interested in doing truly technically challenging work, learning every day, and being in an environment where you're going to be noticed and can make a difference for the thousands of developers who consume our APIs, then I hope you'll consider joining me at Ably, here in Camden, London.
See www.ably.io/careers.

Currently we are looking for:

   - Lead Ruby & Rails Engineer - https://jobs.ably.io/o/lead-ruby-engineer
   - Senior Ruby & Rails Engineer -

Subject: [LRUG] [JOBS] Looking for developers to join thoughtbot!

Hey everyone!

I know a bunch of you already. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Rob. I'm a developer and development director at thoughtbot's London studio. I've been here for almost three years now after working at On the Beach and Barclays.

I'm sending this message out because we are finally growing our development team. I would love to know if there are any developers out there who would like to join us. Our office is in the heart of London right next to the Barbican. We are looking to take on two or three full-time developers between now and the end of the year.

Here are some of the reasons I love thoughtbot:

1. We maintain an inclusive environment where we can thrive as people and professionals. We work at a sustainable pace of productivity and live full lives outside of work. We are a diverse team who can bring their experiences together to solve problems. We are proud of the work we are doing. Our job is meaningful, worth existing, and improves society and human well-being.

2. We can manage ourselves and don't need someone to tell us what to do to be productive. Our first instinct is to take the initiative rather than expect a policy or ask for permission. We can make decisions on our own, to put in place change, and to take independent action. Taking independent action doesn't mean we do everything alone. Instead, we know when to collaborate, and when to ask for help.

3. We recognize that we can always be better. Thus, we have strong opinions, loosely held. We take the initiative to improve ourselves, the company, and our community. This is a never-ending task because there is always room for improvement. This week should be better than last, and we should be optimistic that next week will be better than this week. We learn new things and share those things with our peers and community. While working to make things better, we prefer long-term viability over near-term shortcuts. It is more critical the organization exist in five years than it is that we make an extra dollar this year.

4. We expect the best from each other. We give each other the benefit of the doubt. We encourage each other to take the initiative to improve ourselves and the company. We provide direct and constructive help to each other. We show trust and respect for each other by telling the truth. We exhibit honesty and integrity in our actions. We avoid having private conversations about each other or clients. We talk in person and use tools such as Slack, Basecamp, and GitHub to communicate. This applies a project, within thoughtbot, and in public. We want to be able to choose our own tools and bring a respected voice to the way we run our projects. We are not in the room to take orders, we're there to collaborate and solve problems. We insist on working for clients who trust our role and experience. We prefer transparency of information whenever possible. We do all this while maintaining the privacy and confidentiality that everybody deserves.

5. We create working, maintainable software that is enjoyable and easy to use. We improve the quality of the process and the client's environment. Designing and building quality software means improving security, privacy, and accessibility. It includes life improvements and reduction of harm for all users and contributors.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, there is more on our hiring page: https://thoughtbot.com/jobs#london. If you have any questions or would like to have a chat about the positions, message me at rob at thoughtbot.com

Thanks so much, and see you at July's meetup!
